Fellow Commanders!
As you may know W100 started off yesterday with a less ideal launch than some might have hoped for. We ran into numerous issues upon release that we did not foresee which resulted in the world being offline for some time as well as lag and stability issues following the downtime.
For this we apologize, and hope that this did not result in too many people missing out on World 100. That being said, this also provides us with an opportunity to learn from what we saw yesterday and to seek improvements to prevent this from happening when opening future worlds.
Through yesterday evening, trailing into the early hours of the morning and throughout today, we have made it a priority to investigate these issues. Through this we hope to improve future world launches going forward for everyone and also take this time to answer some of the concerns that we have seen on our forums.
- What caused these issues?
Contrary to popular belief the issues were not caused by a lack of hardware. Our current Tiberium Alliances servers are more than capable of handling the load caused by the influx of players we saw yesterday.
The problem lies within software limitations and the infrastructure connecting various parts of our game to our backend systems. These backend systems are simply not accustomed to the level of information that it was receiving upon opening World 100. The software could not handle thousands of players trying to simultaneously register on W100, ultimately leading to players losing connection and the world going offline.
- Did you not anticipate the demand that World 100 generated?
We did of course anticipate that World 100 would be popular, and that it would fill up extremely fast. However, we have never experience anything quite to this scale and we were unable to foresee that things would turn out quite how they did.
- Will you increase the number of slots on W100?
No. The world has already been created with a specific number of players in mind. Increasing the slot count would not only require altering the world itself but also having to re-launch the world.
- I heard some people had reserved spots, is this true?
No. There was only 1 person with a reserved slot on World 100 and that belongs to the person who won our W100 Base Layout contest. No one else had a reserved spot.
- Some people made it into the world before I did, did they get a head start?
That’s arguable. Those whom did get into World 100 before the world was taken offline will have suffered a certain degree of lag and poor performance. It is unlikely they have made any significant progress or anything close to meaningful head start.
- Will you reset World 100 so that everyone can start over?
No.
- I can see World 100 in my server browser but I can’t access it, did I manage to successfully reserve a spot on the World?
No. What you are experiencing is a glitch that happens between two different data bases responsible for player ID and the entitlement that allows you to play on World 100. We will implement a fix to remove World 100 from your list in the near future.
