Motivation meiner Ladder/ Clansystem/ Automatch Fragen: - Fragen kommen dann unten -

So maybe its the problem that high ranked players are using custom match against each other and aren't always in the automatch system, so therefore, you feel you don't get matched up against them. That could be part of the problem.
It's NOT, in ra2 top players stayed in USA HQ2 and asked other players to "go automatch" if they did see one in their range, so no the top players aren't the problem, the matching filter is.
A problem does exist with the matching system, I agree. The perfect solution is not at hand yet, but i'll see what we can do. I love this thread and I like the ideas being generated.
of course the perfect solution is at hand, you do have a affiliate, XWIS, which has years of experience with a working quickmatch system. AND in addition they want to help, you just need to listen to them.
I do envy Blizzards system overall, if I had to guess, I think our team will be the next to make a system which closely matches what they do. Its a lot of time investment and we've been slowly building up to it. I think we'll get there with more of what you want.
Why start from scratch when you have XWIS, which is allready in place and willing to help? Ask them what they think would improve the system, they even told you during the community summits what would help the multiplayer experience (afaik).
But i'll repeat again:
- AM improvements --- meaning changeing the AM filter to about 300 points (this does need a massive amount of time? O_o)
- Ladder improvements (yes i'll post this screenshot a thousand times if i have to)

http://mooff.united-forum.de/clanimp. jpg According to what Zephos (gamespy guard) posted on gr.org the information needed is allready provided by gamespy, so i don't think this is a hard one either.
- Clan improvements, clanning scene was allways BIG in cnc games, if you implement above changes it will be big again, right now clanning is dead
- Lobby irc system - check XWIS for that, spam-protection, lobby bans, irc commands like clanstats and playerstats
- Map quotes, in order to stop one mapping
- Changes in the ELO System, in order to make it more "casual friendly". I'll explain this one: The old Westwood system (yeah you probably stopped reading there - "we are not westwood" comes to my mind) was great there aswell. It doesn't change anything in top level play, where a hard elo system is good, but it differs in the casual section.
With the current system a "not so good" player starts with 1000Points, goes automatch and drops down to 700 points after 40 games, which is a horrible slap in his face. It basecially tells him "you sir ****, you are way below average", in addition not playing at all, or creating a new persona boosts his rank by an incredible amount. Conclusion is: many casuals won't bother with ranked 1on1 games at all, or quit the game altogether. Now here comes the westwood elo system improvements: Starting value 0 + you can never ever lose more than 10% of your points => you can never drop below zero => regardless of how bad you are, the longer you play the better your rank will be UNTIL you reach 600 points (the k value now is 10%) at this point the systems do not differ anymore. Casuals won't make it above 600 Points, but in the 0-600points range we have many players, so automatching shouldn't ever be a problem for them, even with a 200/300 pointsfilter. Better players will be above 600 elo points, and the pro players will be above 1000 points, meaning they can't be matched with the casuals (which is good for both since neither for the pro nor for the casuals a bash is a good experience).
Point is: The elo system is great for competetive play, but using a hard elo system on casuals is driving them away from the game - this isn't important in chess, cause there you don't care about 'noobs' not playing. In cnc3 you do care, cause casuals are where the money is.
Same goes for a clansystem, it gives the casuals a reason to play the game (with their friends for a common goal) - and we want them to play!

http://mooff.united-forum.de/ladderimp.jpg )
- Warum werden diese Clanladderverbesserungen nicht vorgenommen? (ausdrucken unter die Nase halten:
http://mooff.united-forum.de/clanimp.jpg )
