Hey guys,
I understand the flak given every time we put out a new game and stick with our friends at Gamespy, so I will tell you, Red Alert 3 will be using online match-making from Gamespy HOWEVER, and this is a BIG HOWEVER...
We are doing a number of critical things on our end to greatly improve the online experience.
Everyone gives Gamespy unwarranted flak which is entirely unfair. A lot of online issues in the past have been directly from our own EA servers, so please do not point the finger at Gamespy, point it back at us. We can take the heat =) We understand key issues in the past and key learnings.
Gamespy has been a great partner with us and we'll be doing some things for Red Alert 3 with them.
Please rest assured though that we are on the same exact page as you, and want the best online multiplayer experience world-wide in as much as possible.
Please do not make a huge case out of this issue.
We are also fixing some significant lobby issues with C&C 3 and Kane's Wrath, as well as doing a lot of research on various cheating, a lot of these issues are issues we need to button up, not Gamespy.
Gamespy's primary function is match-making and ladder hosting, two things which they have done exceptionally well since the days of Generals. Yes, match-making can always be better, but by and large, it's been better than average over the years from what i've seen.
Server outages, disconnecting, cheating, these are things more related back to us here at EA. Gamespy is not an all-encompassing solution. What most people forget is that a significant part of your online experience is hosted by us here at EA, and we are doing many things to improve that for Red Alert 3.
I know firsthand because I am apart of those groups working on improvement.
So hear me loud, hear me clear, in no matter what capacity we work with Gamespy for Red Alert 3, please entrust that we are making improvements and Gamespy is not the culprit of any significant online issues you've experienced in the past, and yes...not even our forums =)
We are doing many things internally here for the online experience of our RTS games to solve issues experienced in the past.
Thanks,
APOC
