Hey guys,

Well, that was really an intense event yesterday. In my opinion, it has been the best CnC event hosted by the community for a long time. It was a very big success.

From my position as one of the leading organizers (together with DarkMorgulKing), I would like to thank everyone who helped making this event as great as it was. I’m not sure if many of you guys can imagine how much work it is to plan and administrate such a big tournament. This is why I would like to go in details.

The planning of the event started in October last year when I contacted DMK with my idea of a battle between our two boards. Since then, we have had a lot of discussions going around until we were finally able to start with both qualification tourneys.

Especially, I would like to thank the persons mentioned below. The list is sorted alphabetically. Maybe DMK wants to add some more people to it later. Please don’t feel bad if I have not mentioned you!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

APOC
Aaron supported our event from the very first moment and helped us organizing prizes. Without his great support and sponsoring, I’m not sure if this event would have been possible.

We asked him to offer us 21 prize packages. Yes, 21 prize packages - he now has to send to the winners - and he said really yes!

Apothekenbier
Apo is moderator of RTS-Cups TV which is a show on Game-TV.com You maybe also remember him from TW or KW as a player, who was not that bad! When we started planning the event, I asked him about the possibility of hosting three live video streams. And he accepted.

Apo lives about 45 minutes away from me by car and due to the fact that my internet connection is a lot better than his one, we decided to host the show from my flat. Each Sunday, he went to me with the whole equipment which is needed to produce a live video stream.

In summary, he produced about 19,5 hours live video stream just for this event. No breaks, just sitting there every Sunday in my room and commentating. Unbelievable…

DarkMorgulKing
He was enthusiastic about the idea of the event from the first moment and did a very great job. We both never had any conflicts between each other and always worked together very well. I don’t know how many discussions we had in MSN and on the internal forum, but it were definitely a lot.

Yesterday, at the day of the Grand Final, he has had his birthday. He is 18 years old now. Happy birthday again and thank you for the great teamwork, John!

Destro / Moblin_DK / Zero

Due to the reason that Moblin_DK was not able to commentate the live video stream on the second and third Sunday again, Destro got his job. And he did very well. Together with Apo, he produced about 14,5 hours live video stream. I’m absolutely sure that everyone enjoyed your commentary. Btw: Nice one catching the spammer yesterday!

But not only Destro and Moblin casted games, also Zero was commentating a lot of time on the stream.

Greg Black
DMK asked Greg if he wants to give us an interview on our live video stream during the Grand Final. Mr. Black not only confirmed an interview for that Sunday, but also offered us to commentate some of the games! Because the stream was lagging for him at home, he had to drive to the EALA studios.

Thank you very much Greg for spending so much of your freetime for this event. We really appreciate this and hope you had a lot of fun as well!

Osbes
Osbes is the programmer of the United-Forum. For the UF qualification tournament, he wrote an own tournament system! I don’t know how many weeks he worked on it but it was definitely time-consuming.

Furthermore, Osbes was always available if I had any questions regarding the concept of the event and willing to help.

RoToR
RoToR contacted me after he lost his UF qualification matches on the first day and asked if he could help with the organization. Maybe you remember his awesome game against DasDuelon on Infinity Isle we had live on the video stream during the first show. That was really a highlight!

On the second qualification day, he was part of the UF tournament administration. During the Grand Final, he was in charge for the “place your bets” contest and believe me guys, I don’t think there are many of you who would have done what he did!

From 6 pm CET until 2 am CET – 8 hours! – he was staying in the IRC channel and counting your bets. Our bot just copied all information in a different channel and RoToR therefore had to note every single bet in an Excel file to create a ladder and calculate the winners. Crazy…

stefros
stefros was in charge for the IRC bots during the UF tournament and the Grand Final. Thanks to his work, we had bots which provided the stream URL, accepted bets and questions for the interview.

Toaster
Everyone needs a Toaster, that’s for sure! Toaster helped us organizing the UF qualification tournament. Without his help, I’m sure, everything would have ended in chaos. I don’t want to know how many queries he had in IRC during the first day of the UF tourney. I’m glad I didn’t have them ^^.

The Team Captains: trojan.x and freezy / FiX
I also want to thank the team captains. Even in complicated situations during the Grand Final, everyone stayed cool and reasonable.

In addition to that, they helped to produce a very funny show from the very first moment (all the comments on the forums for example) and did everything to make this event a success.

I also would like to say thanks to FiX, who always supplied his support.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I personally think that every of these guys – also the persons I have not mentioned above – should have your respect for using their free time to organize such an event. No one of them got paid for their work.

I can understand that there was disappointment on the one side and happiness on the other side, this is normal. But I think it is not fair to start a flame war now – this is not correct if you rate the event overall and make a right breakdown. I don’t want to say that everything was good yesterday, that everything went as expected, but what I can’t accept is that people try to use false arguments and bad mouth everything.

In the following, I will try to explain some of our decisions in order to clear up what actually happened. It is just ridiculous to say that someone of the administration (for example my person) tried to manipulate the tournament. I will do it step by step, chronologically.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Issue 1: The game of dynamic which was replayed during the UF qualification tournament
There were some complaints about this decision and allegations: “the UF team broke the rules” and “they did that because they did not want to send their eventually best player of the roster into the loser bracket.” This is definitely not true.

At first, the decision that the match has to be replayed, was made by me. Secondly, we didn’t break any rule because in the rules it says that it is only allowed to play a map which is part of the map pool. It does not say that the players are allowed to choose any map they want.

Using a map which is not in the map pool is a huge intervention we can not tolerate. And every player is responsible that the rules are followed correctly. Not only the one who has the map choice due to the loser pick procedure.

Issue 2: Actually, dynamic was supposed to play the first 2vs2 match. Why did we not replace him with Insop?
The reason why we had to let Insop play the 1vs1 and not the 2vs2 was that his internet connection is very bad. Even if we had decided to not cast the 2vs2 game on the video stream, his connection would not have been good enough. In addition to that, we had the problem that the second substitute of UF didn’t show up/was not available.

Because of that, John and I decided to give both teams the opportunity to change the line-up for these games. The team captains of both teams were involved in this decision as well.

Issue 3: Why was it possible that Fazinate played a 2vs2 match two times?
The answer is quite easy: Because it was allowed, as you can learn from the screenshot, we released together with the announcement of the Grand Final. The rule:
“Both players of a 2vs2 team have to be replaced after a round has been completed.”

This is what team UF did. They replaced both 2vs2 players after game 3 and after game 8. I can’t see a rule shown on the screenshot which says that each of the 6 players have to play exactly one 2vs2 game.

The problem was that the entire GR team thought that each gamer has to play exactly one 2vs2 game. It seems like there was a lack of communication but this has definitely nothing to do with manipulating the rules. Actually, we discussed this rule the last time in our internal forum - where all organizers and the team captains have still access to - on March 24. By the way: Apothekenbier explained the 2vs2 rule live on the video stream before the first game of the Grand Final started. You can find that at: 5:30. Just download the video file.

The reason why we decided that at least only 4 different players have to play a 2vs2 game was that we were afraid of bad internet connections. We didn’t want to have games that lag. And we also didn’t want to forbid players the participation on the Grand Final because they don’t have a good enough internet connection for 2vs2 games – we did not reveal that you need to be able to play 2vs2 games when we started the qualification tournaments. Was this a mistake? In my opinion it was not.

Issue 4: The decision that final games have to be played in best of 3 mode
You are right: we didn’t announce this rule before the Grand Final started. It was a decision made by DMK and me - based on an idea of me – during the Grand Final. We felt that it is fairer to let the event end in a best of 3 showdown and that it is more fun and more entertaining to watch.

In retrospect, this was a mistake, although I think the idea itself was good. One problem was the communication with the players. The other question is if it is reasonable to change such a rule while the tournament is already running. I can’t see that we gave one team an advantage or disadvantage with that but I agree that this rule was too essential to be implemented that late.

Issue 5: What happened with the final best of 3 between Technique and LeOwNzAll?

Originally, the Grand Final should have been decided by a best of 3 between Technique and LeOwNzAll. During the first game of this best of 3, Technique got spammed so much that he was unable to play the match. These circumstances were not acceptable. In addition to that, he was leading during the first game for a long time and it is very likely that he only lost because of this problem.

Unfortunately, Technique quit the game after this first match. He refused to play again. Personally, I can fully understand his reaction and that he was very angry. On the other hand, his behaviour was understandable, but not acceptable because it created many new problems.

Now we had to make a decision. And in this decision-making process the following persons were involved: DarkMorgulKing, Echo, Trojan.x / MrYuRi, Mooff, Freezy
As you can see, there were integrated three representatives of each site. And as you certainly also recognized, the discussion took a lot of time. It was not an easy one and to be honest, I don’t think there was a perfect solution for this problem. What is right and what is wrong? There was no perfect solution in this case.

First of all, we decided that the show must go on. Secondly, we had to discuss the details. And at the end, we came to the conclusion that the general conditions of the first match between Technique and Leo were not acceptable. This is why we reset the result.

Due to the reason that Technique was gone and had to be replaced, we thought that it would be fair to give the team of GR the same opportunity. trojan.x decided to select khufu and freezy decided to select firgli.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m convinced that not everyone will show understanding, but please guys, appreciate our hard work and don’t ruin the great tournament we had with barren and seemingly endless discussions. I am not willing to continue arguing, so please accept our decisions and take a backseat.

Thank you for your attention and your understanding.

Thanks to every1 who put time into this its much appreciated :).
