GameCube disk reading error

I don't know why, but my GameCube has been having a lot of trouble reading game disks recently. I first started experiencing this problem about a year and a half ago, and some games seem worse with it than others. I have cleaned my disks, but I still get a disk reading error most of the time. I can literally open and close the lid hundreds of times for hours just to get it to read a disk properly, and sometimes even then it won't work. I don't know why this is, I think it may have something to do with dust build up inside of my GameCube or something. I got my GameCube several years ago, back in the early 21st century, around 2003 or 2004. Could someone please help me diagnose and rectify the problem?
